EFFEKTA UPSs have been securing power for IT and communication in container hospitals since 2013
Reliable UPS solutions for mobile military hospitals – energy supply in extreme situations
For the Bundeswehr's mobile field hospitals, communications technology and IT have now become a vital factor: the coordination of medical missions, modern diagnostics using digital technology, replenishment requests for medical supplies and much more depend on the appropriate equipment functioning smoothly. The Bundeswehr's aim is to offer its soldiers medical care that meets German standards, even in difficult environments.
This is by no means a smooth implementation, especially in field operations: Reliable power supply often depends on generators, which can fail under certain circumstances or have to be temporarily shut down due to maintenance requirements. Reliable UPS systems are of key importance for these supply gaps. Securing the power supply is often made more difficult by difficult climatic conditions: Tropical climates with heat and high humidity, but also desert conditions with hot days and cold nights require an optimal design of the control system and batteries in order to be able to reliably guarantee an uninterrupted power supply.

Designed for special needs
Especially under the harsh conditions of operations, the reliable power supply of modern medical equipment is of essential importance. For the reliable power supply of IT and communications technology in the Bundeswehr's container hospitals, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) from the manufacturer EFFEKTA used: The UPS type MKD3000RM_BW1 is safely installed in a 19-inch cabinet together with the server and radio technology and has a number of special features: The input and output of the UPS are connected to terminals. It is not possible to accidentally pull out plugs and thus interrupt the power supply. An interruption in the battery circuit is immediately indicated. The UPS system can be monitored via the network using an SNMP adapter. The UPS can also be switched on and off remotely using a potential-free contact. The backup time can be extended with an additional battery pack.

Special features and maintenance for operational readiness
Through intensive cooperation in the development of EFFEKTA With the German army, we were able to adapt our MKD-3000 series product so that the system meets the exact requirements that arise in use. In addition to the technical adaptations already described, the MKD3000RM_BW1 variant is particularly well protected against humidity and dust ingress. As part of a maintenance contract, the UPSs are regularly checked and maintained by our service department so that they are always optimally operational. Since the MKD3000RM_BW1 UPS has already proven itself several times in hospital use, it is now also used in other areas of mobile power supply security for the German army.
